One win from the play-offs

FC United will go into the final day of the season knowing that a home victory over Bradford Park Avenue should secure a UniBond Premier Division play-off place - unless Kendal Town go goal crazy against mid-table Buxton.

With one game to go for all the promotion hopefuls, the Reds now sit in fifth place - the final play-off position - on 71 points. Bradford and Kendal both have 71 points too but United have a goal difference of plus 24 compared to 22 and 21 respectively.

A victory for United will obviously see them finish above their West Yorkshire rivals but Kendal could snatch away the final play-off spot if they beat the Bucks by three more goals than the Reds beat Bradford, as the Lakeland side have a much better goals scored figure.

If United draw against Bradford then they would need both Kendal and Hednesford, who entertain Leigh Genesis on the final day, to drop points. If Karl Marginson’s men lose to Bradford then they will definitely miss out on the play-offs.

United could finish as high as third and as low as eigth, depending on how Saturday’s results go. Third place Nantwich, who host Worksop, and fourth place Guiseley, who travel to Witton Albion could still miss out on a play-off spot if they lose in an incredibly close finale to the season.

The Reds will welcome back Carl Lomax for the crunch match after he served a one game ban against Ilkeston Town on Saturday and United’s top scorer, Kyle Wilson is hoping to be involved in some form after being an unused substitute at the weekend following three months out with a knee injury.

FC United of Manchester versus Bradford Park Avenue is this Saturday at Gigg Lane with kick-off at 3pm. It’s pay on the gate with prices at £7.50 adults, £5 concessions and £2 under-18s. The winner will probably get a shot at promotion to the Blue Square Conference North. Get yourself to that football ground and cheer on FC United to what could be the final push for an incredible four promotions in the club’s first four years.
