Reds ready for Dabbers D-Day

FC United take on third placed Nantwich Town at Gigg Lane on Easter Monday in the Reds’ penultimate home match of the season knowing that a victory is vital in keeping their play-off hopes alive.

The Reds currently lie in fourth place in the UniBond Premier Division and come into the game on the back of a four game winning streak, having scored 14 goals in those matches. In contrast, the Dabbers have had a wobble of late - losing their last two matches at home to promotion rivals Guiseley, 2-0, and Hednesford Town, 3-1.

With no fresh injury worries, United are eager to continue their winning run in their third from last game in order to put more pressure on the group of teams who are chasing promotion which, as well as the afore mention sides, includes Bradford Park Avenue and Kendal.

To do that Karl Marginson’s men will need to get the better of a Nantwich side which has already beaten them twice this season - once in an FA Cup replay in September, 4-3, and once in a league fixture at the Weaver Stadium with a comprehensive 3-0 score line in February.

This season’s previous poor results against the Dabbers shouldn’t bother United too much though as the Reds have looked like a different side in the past couple of months to how they did earlier in the season with much more self-belief and lucidity.

United will undoubtedly be up for continuing their push for the play-offs but the Dabbers will also be desperate to make sure a season’s worth of hard work does not go to waste by throwing away their last few games.

FC United of Manchester versus Nantwich Town is Easter Monday with kick-off at 3pm. It’s pay on the gate with prices at £7.50 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-18s. Will the Reds keep their play-off hopes alive? You can help cheer them on if you get yourself to that football ground.
