Only five homes games left

When FC United of Manchester played their first match at Leigh in July 2005 and set off on this magical journey, who could have dreamt that we would be battling for our fourth consecutive promotion only three and a half years later?

We should never forget that it is our commitment and support that makes the club’s very existence possible.

Once again this season, the team has more than held their own in another new division. Gigg Lane has so far been host to entertaining contests like the 3-2 win against Marine, disappointments like the 4-3 FA Cup replay defeat to Nantwich and the drama of the pulsating 5-5 draw against Cammell Laird.

These are just three examples of occasions that make this club so special. Anyone who was at those games will tell you they were among the most spine-tingling fixtures in FC United’s short history, and no doubt those of you who couldn’t make it were kicking yourselves when you saw the goal-crammed results.

Positive things are happening off the pitch as well as on it. Our army of volunteers have produced a truly majestic effort to reduce the cost of staging home games, while the supporters continue to dig deep to raise funds towards the dream of moving into a ground of our own. In addition, we have built up a fantastic reputation through our coaching and community projects across Greater Manchester.

What’s more, season ticket sales last summer were at a record high. This is truly amazing and everyone associated with the club is proud of the financial investment supporters have put in - especially during this uncertain economic period.

Now, with just over a month left of the season, the team are looking to make that final push - but they need your help. With five home games left, starting with Ashton United at home this Wednesday, a place in the play-offs is still within our grasp.

Show your support for YOUR club and cheer the lads on in the run up to the end of the season (you’ll miss it come the middle of May!).

If you’ve got a season ticket, use it! While season ticket holders who don’t attend league games do count in attendance figures and enable the club to continue to grow, their vocal support is just as valued as their financial help.

Time and time again, Karl Marginson and the players have spoken of how our fantastic crowd acts as a 12th man for the team and can often make the difference to the outcome of a game.

In short, being there counts. So, get yourself to that football ground and get behind the team in these last five games. Sing your heart out for the lads.

Thanks for your support,
from all at FC United.
