Lots on at Malcolmses

This Saturday brings a Malcolmses the like of which you’ve never seen before. We’ve got more acts than we’ve ever had, one of them world renowned... We open at 12 and the first act will be on at around 12.45 so you’ll need to get in early. Don’t stop off for a pint on the way, come in CYCM early doors and get warmed up. It’s your pub, your beer, your food, your music..

First up we’ve got singer songwriter Tom O’Neill. We had him booked for the postponed game last Sunday but was so eager to play he volunteered himself for a support slot this week. We’re looking forward to that one. This week we’ve also gone all Richard and Judy with our very own book club... Andrew Davies will be selling and signing copies of his life work, ’The Gangs of Manchester’. We’ve also got Matthew Bazell reading from his book on the plight of modern day football fans, ’Theatre of Silence: The Lost Soul of Football’. Andy Walsh reckons its a good read even though it’s by an Arsenal fan. All profits from the sale go to the DF (if you can’t make it, you can buy both books from Amazon through Buy Att ). We also have a poet, James Quinn, who will be talking a bit about the International Brigade and reading ’The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’, The Gil Scott Heron song, a real treat I’m told. He was invited by a few FC fans who saw him perform at a recent event. What else can we fit in? Well, we’ve managed to get the smart ’Dirty North’ from Wythenshawe to play a 22 minute acoustic set for us (their bass player works Saturday so they have to go unplugged..). They were recommended to us by the magnificent Frazer King and aren’t half good. They’ll be on at around 2pm. www.myspace.com/dirtynorthband

Last Christmas we had a very special treat lined up for you. Unfortunately, due to some big concert at the Cathedral or Bridgewater Hall, they had to pull out. This year, for FCUM, they’re getting pished up at Malcolms.. Yes, we have a local world renowned choir performing United Christmas Carols for us. 12 Cantonas, Oh What fun it is to see United win away etsetch. It’s one of those once in a lifetime, not to be missed, things. They’ll be on just after the band to get you singing before hitting the terraces. It’s a big game against Hednesford so what better way is there to prepare yourself for singing your hearts out for the lads.

The guest ale this week is ’Palmers Poison, from the Blythe Brewery. We have tall the usuals - Holts, Star and Stowfords, Scuttler Cakes, Taterhash, Tea Earn and Carrot Corner. Liz and Jo. We’ll also be doing the first of our ’Season in Seven’s’ raffles where you can win the seven guest beers from the first seven games of the season, each signed by a goalscorer from that game. All for the Dev Fund.

Remember, we open at 12 and Tom O’Neill will be on early doors. It’s your pub so get there early to make sure you’re not locked out. Every single pence spent behind the bar goes to the club, why drink somewhere else? The BBC are going to be there and so should you...
