Running FC into the ground

Over 40 FC runners took part yesterday in the Great Manchester 10K Run in FC kit raising funds not only for the Development Fund but a number of other well deserving charities.

It was a perfect day for running and crowds turned out in their thousands lining the course from start to finish. Amongst them were a good contingent of FC supporters who helped to create a great atmosphere cheering on the FC runners and giving welcome encouragement as limbs grew tired.

One of the runners, Paula Duffy, said afterwards "The support from FC fans around the course spurred me onwards, especially during the boring bits of the run. It made me proud to be in the shirt and more determined to get round in a good time for the cause".

Amongst those fans were a number, including Voxra, standing on the roof of the Peveril of the Peak pub near the start of the Run performing the bar scarf twirl and with a large Development Fund flag on display!

The BBC2 highlights programme showed a message "the FC United of Manchester Development Fund has a team of 50 running today. Well done to you all." Unfortunately none of us featured in the elite race highlights but it is hoped that the Development Fund will be a winner to the tune of over £4000 sponsorship although it is impossible to give an accurate total at this stage.

A big thanks should go to all the runners and all the fans who turned up to show their support. Thanks also to George for his support and help with providing FC shirts for a number of the runners, and also to MedEquip4Kids who invited the FC runners to their after run barbecue. Thanks to Nicky Platt who represented the players and put in a very good time.

Donations can be still be made to the DF for the Run team. Please send a cheque to the Club office made payable to the FCUM Development Fund or go to the Pledge Page on the Development Fund website.

Finally, if you think you would like to join the FC runners next year then please contact Mike Sherrard by email sherrard@btconnect.com. It will be here sooner than you think!
