Chaddy fires Reds up for 'must win game'

Long before the two defeats last week to Ossett Albion and then Wakefield, many onlookers had pointed to Monday evening’s game at Bradford Park Avenue as the biggest game of both teams end of season run in.

That fact was not lost on club captain David Chadwick who; speaking after the weekends defeat to Wakefield, looked to fire up his tired team against our fellow promotion rivals from the other side of the Pennines.

"The Bradford fixture was always going to be a big game but after our results this week its become even more important, I would say its a must win game if we do want to win the league" explains Chaddy.

The league title is also a realistic target for the Reds, as the big number five failed to concede defeat in the race for an unprecidented third title in three seasons: "as long as the points are there for us to win it we’ll keep going and try and win it."

Already 35 games into the league season United face the daunting task of playing seven games in three weeks, as well as a cup final and Chaddy feels the gruelling schedule is taking it’s toll on some of the squad.

"It’s always hard playing catch up with so many games every week and the lads are tired. Last Thursday (Ossett Albion away) was a typical example; I went to work at six in the morning up to Workington, left there at about half two and travelled four and a half hours to Ossett, got there 25 minutess before kick off and then had to play. I eventually got home just before midnight, it was a very long day and to be honest I was exhausted."

But Chadwick feels three points against promotion rivals Avenue on Monday evening could serve as an adrenaline boost to fatigued legs: "I think a win would give the lads a big boost confidence wise as we’ve been struggling recently."

The support of the Reds faithful is something which Chaddy says the team are looking to draw from in the coming weeks: "All we can do is put the effort in at this stage and hope the fans just get behind us for the final push of the season."
