’Of A Mancunian’ by Mike Duff
The long awaited book of poems by Manchester poet Mike Duff (also known around these parts as the unmistakable Herbert Prefabs) is about to see the light of day. ’Of A Mancunian’ is a collection of work spanning Mike’s years writing poetry.
Mike was asked way back in the season by Mark O’Rourke if he minded if some of the poems that he was posting on various internet forums could be arranged and published on behalf of the FC United Development Fund. Without a moment’s hesitation Mike sent hundreds of pieces of his work to sift through and with his total support, saying that he did not want to take a single penny from any sales of the book whatsoever. A truly generous offer we think you’ll agree.
’Of A Mancunian’ has it’s official launch on Saturday 12th April at Gigg Lane with a special recital and book signing by the man himself in the Starkies bar better known to FC fans as ’Course You Can Malcolm’. Some of you may have had the opportunity of seeing Mike entertain us at one of the various venues during the course of the season but for the majority who only know him by one of his great novels ’The Hat Check Boy’ or ’Low Life’ you will now have the chance to catch Mike at one of the poetry book readings.
Starting with CYCM on the 12th April, there will be a second chance at Gigg Lane’s Social Club before the last home game of the season on the 23rd April and a City centre venue on or around the 24th April which will be confirmed on Mike’s website www.mikeduff.co.uk as soon as it is confirmed. Online book sales will also be possible from the website for those not able to get to one of the launches in person.
The book will be on sale for the giveaway price of just £5"¦ scandalously inexpensive for a man’s pride and joy. "it was important to make this book accessible to everyone"?? says Mike, "poetry for the people at an affordable price"??. Look out for the ’Of A Mancunian’ poster at all games until the end of the season and buy a book helping to give another huge boost towards the FC United Development Fund target for this season.
Mike realises that FC United are a family orientated club and would like to point out that many of his poems are not suitable for children or people of a Didsbury wine bar disposition.
