Burns fired up for home debut

Saturday’s match against Ossett Albion is not only what the football pundits like to call a six-pointer at the top of the table, it will also be the home debut for former Manchester United reserve team striker, Aaron Burns. Craig Phillips caught up with the 19-year-old goal scoring sensation ahead of his big day.

After three years at one of the best football academies in the world, Northern Moor born Burns can rightly expect to be courted by some of the best clubs in the Football League but due to the league’s rules surrounding the transfer window he’s been left out in the cold until the New Year.

The youngster was top scorer for United’s reserve team last term but was let go in the summer. He was soon signed up by Championship outfit Cardiff City but after the experienced duo of Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink joined the Blue Birds, Burns found himself surplus to requirements at Ninian Park.

Due to a Football League ruling the young striker cannot sign for club higher than UniBond level before the start of January and so after the Reds’ general manager, Andy Walsh became aware of the situation he tipped off Karl Marginson who made no hesitation in snapping the youngster up. The Football League’s loss looks certain to be FC United’s gain.

Burns has enjoyed a phenomenal start to his time at the club, scoring three goals in just two games and is eagerly looking forward to his first game in front of the Red army at Gigg Lane. "Hopefully, we’ll get a big crowd down there, get the support behind us and get another three points,"?? Burns said.

The mood is a good one in the United dressing room at the moment and Burns explained how he is enjoying playing with strike partner Rory Patterson, saying: "Rory’s a very good player, we seem to be playing off each other well and there’s an understanding there between us."??

United are flying high at the moment after a 3-2 cup win over Blue Square Premier side Droylsden on Tuesday night, which was helped by a Burns scorcher early in the second half.

But that good performance didn’t surprise Burns: "We played really well and did well to get to 3-0 up, they’re obviously three divisions above so we knew it would be tough, but we played well and I think their two goals flattered them a bit."??

Burns explained how he has been made to feel at home since joining FC United: "Everybody at the club has been really good to me and very welcoming. It’s nice to be playing well and scoring goals."??

Turning his attention to the crunch tie with Ossett Albion, Burns added: "To be honest I don’t know much about them, hopefully we can get another win and it would be nice to get another goal, but the three points is what’s most important."??

Saturday’s game is 3pm kick off with admission prices £7.50 adults, £5 concessions and £2 under-18s. So get yourself to that football ground to see Burn’s debut in front of the Gigg Lane crowd and, hopefully, United move into second place.
