United suffer Skelmersdale defeat

A long range strike from Rory Patterson proved not to be enough for FC United as the Reds slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Skelmersdale on Tuesday night. The hosts’ striker Tony Evans stole the show with a hat-trick, inflicting FC United’s third defeat of the UniBond Division One North campaign.

The former Marines and Prescott Cables forward broke the deadlock within the first five minutes and Patterson, the league’s top scorer, struck back with his 10th goal of the season 13 minutes later.

But a poor second half performance allowed the West Lancashire club to take the lead again three minutes before the hour mark and with United reverting to three at the back in a bid to chase the game, Evans caught the visitors on the break to complete his hat-trick in injury time.
