Patterson back to derail Harrogate

This season’s top scorer, Rory Patterson should go straight back into the starting line-up against Harrogate Railway Athletic tomorrow after serving a three match ban and will probably be partnered up front by Simon Carden, who impressed in the role against Trafford last week, according to manager Karl Marginson.

Despite the extra time defeat on Wednesday night in the League Challenge Cup to Alsager Town, Margy was pleased by the performance of debutants Liam George and Kayne Hanley as well as Chris Baguley, who was making the first start of his FC United career.

However, despite the positives Margy is concerned by the number of times the Reds have been hit on the counter attack against the run of play so far this season. He said: "Teams have been playing for draws against us and have hit us on the break; we’ve got to sort it out. I’ve been reminding all the players about their levels of concentration."

And although better defending and keeping possession well in key areas will count for a lot, Margy has no doubt that the best form of defence is attack. He added: "I’m definitely not going to start playing for draws. If we score first they’ll have to change their game plan and with the strike force we’ve got it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s all about taking our chances."
