Match Report
As FC United emerge from their winter break the youth entertained Nantwich Town at the Lancaster Club and emerged with a 9-1 win. Man of the Match was Yousif Yousif for a hat trick and contribution to many of the other goals. He is however expected to resign from penalty taking duties. Liam Ellis and Daniel Maynard got two each with Mike Taylor and Josh Matthew scoring once.

It was 1-0 in the sixth minute when FC were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Mike Taylors shot over the wall dropped in at the near post with Ringstead in the Nantwich goal just unable to keep it out.

Liam Ellis started and finished the move for 2-0 in the 16th minute, first playing a ball out to Lewis Adams on the left wing. His cross received the faintest of touches from Yousif before Liam fired home.

It was 3-0 moments later when Mike Taylor drove a corner low across the box which reached Yousif in front of goal and too close to miss. Five minutes later a foul on Liam Ellis gave the reds a penalty. Rumours that Yousif’s kick could still be seen orbiting Failsworth even now are wholly unfair.

The fourth and fifth goals were scored by Daniel Maynard five minutes before and after half time. Firstly for 4-0 FC pressure caused a hurried attempt at a clearance for a corner by the Nantwich defence, sadly for them it hit their crossbar and Yousif was the first two react, passing for Daniel to shoot across the keeper and in at the far post. For 5-0 he was on the end of a Yousif-Ellis combination. He was immediately denied the chance of a hat-trick as he and Mike Taylor were replaced by Blaine Biggs and Josh Matthew.

Credit has to be given to Nantwich for the fact that despite the game being over as a contest they continued to battle hard and try to play good football and although three further home goals were scored as Yousif (6-0), Liam (7-0) and Yousif again (8-0) were able to break clear of the visitors back line. They did score in the 77th minute when Richard Coomer was able to punish a lapse in the home defending.

There was still time for one more goal as Josh Matthew capped a promising display; his pass set Liam clear for the seventh, by finishing of a move involving Jack Burgess and Liam Ellis with a crisp shot back across the keeper. Unfortunately soon after in an incident with Nantwich number 5, Zac Corbett which resulted in a clash of foreheads, both were given red cards.

There were other good chances throughout the game, Maynard had a couple of speculative efforts from the left wing and Liam Ellis was also unfortunate not to complete a hat-trick. A spectacular save denied him early in the first half although for some reason a goal kick was given as an assistant was over-ruled by the referee and an offside flag denied him when clean through in the 80th minute.
