Match Report
FC United drew 0-0 at North Ferriby United on Saturday afternoon but the Reds may be happy with a point after conceding a penalty and having Lee Neville sent off.

Paul Harsley hit the post from the spot, with James Spencer possibly getting a touch to it, just past the hour mark, after the dangerous Alex Davidson was tripped in the box by FC United captain Kyle Jacobs.

And Neville, who was returning from a three game suspension, was shown a straight red after coming on as a substitute when he tussled with Wayne Brooksby. Neville was fouled and held back by the Ferriby man but as he tried to get free he raised his arm and caught Brooksby, giving the referee no option but to sent the left-back off.

It was The Reds who started the brightest, Carlos Roca passing to the ball to Mike Norton who shot wide, in only the first minute of the game. On eight minutes, Stephen Johnson had a good chance, taking a pass from Roca and teeing the ball up, his volley being well saved by Steve Wilson in the Ferriby goal.

The home side started to come into the game, Harsley seeing his free-kick going just wide of Spencer’s goal. Norton came close to a goal on 24 minutes when a Jacobs cross-cum-shot just eluded him at the far post.

A few minutes later, the home side had a great chance when a free-kick found its way to Gary Bradshaw who turned and shot but put the ball wide. Bradshaw had another chance ten minutes later following a good move down the right but again his shot was wide.

Right on half time, FC United should have taken the lead when Matthew Wolfenden broke into the box and drew the keeper. He pulled the ball back to Johnson who saw his shot superbly blocked on the line.

The second half started as did the first with a chance for the Reds, Roca having a shot pushed wide by Wilson but it was to be the only clear cut chance of the half for the visitors.

Ferriby should have taken the lead via the penalty spot just after the hour but United were let off the hook. Russell Fry was next to come close to a goal, Spencer tipping his shot wide. Four minutes from the end Adam Jones saw a long shot saved by Wilson. The game ended on a bad tempered note when Neville was sent off after tangling with Brooksby.

All-in-all, with a missed penalty for Ferriby and playing the last ten minutes of the match with 10 men, FC United may consider this a good point gained, but with postponed games and results elsewhere, it was another missed opportunity to break into the play-off places.

Website Man of the Match - Kyle Jacobs. Despite conceding a penalty, Jacobs put in yet another assured performance at right back both in defence and attack.
