FC United slump to fourth defeat in five games at Lancaster

In all truth, it was a poor game throughout, neither team particularly excelled on the night, but the first half certainly saw The Dolly Blues have the best of play and chances.

On 12 minutes, a corner was powerfully headed by Lewis Fensome, Dan Lavercombe saving well. Lavercombe was again in action on 28 minutes, Liam Brockbank going clear, the custodian tipping the ball wide.

Just after the half hour mark, the home side took the lead when Drew Baker was adjudged to have fouled Paul Dawson, Rob Wilson blasting the spot-kick into the top corner.

Neil Reynolds made two changes at half time, and the Reds certainly came out with more intent but with little goalmouth action to show for it. On the hour, Aaron Morris headed straight at Aidan Dowling and Cedric Main later headed a Regan Linney cross over the bar.

On 77 minutes, FC United did have the ball in the net, Linney finishing well, but the linesman raised his flag for a very tight offside.

This was a poor night at the office for the Reds and they will need a bounce back on Saturday at home to Grantham Town.

Website man of the match: Dan Lavercombe for his two first half saves.
