Result after 90 minutes - Wythenshawe Amateurs won 5-3 on penalties.

FC United of Manchester Youth were knocked out of the 2021-22 season FA Youth Cup competition at the Preliminary round stage on penalties following Wednesday evening's first ever encounter against Wythenshawe Amateurs FC youth at Hollyhedge Park, in front of a club record 432 FA Youth Cup crowd.

After an evenly matched first half, when clear cut chances were few and far between, FC United eventually had the ball in the net in the first minute of time added on, but Yann Daryl Tchokotcheu's effort was narrowly ruled off for offside.

But the vistitors weren't to be denied for much longer, and took the lead two minutes later, on the stroke of half-time, when JACK BENNETT bundled a loose ball home from close range, to give the Young Reds a narrow 1-0 interval lead.

The Ammies drew level on 49 minutes, when KEENAN BARNES swept home from the edge of the area, and shortly afterwards had a "goal" of their own disallowed for offside on the hour mark.

Substitute Taylor McDowell was unlucky to see a dipping shot pushed over the bar by home 'keeper Sam Goodwin on 72 minutes before the Ammies went in front on 77 minutes, through KEENAN BARNES again, a long range effort that gave McKenzie Bennett, in the FC United goal, little chance.

With the clock running down, FC United's EMANUEL FERNANDES steered a late 84th minute equaliser in off the post to make the final score after normal time 2-2, and so send the tie straight into penalties.

After Sandro Da Costa had seen his effort saved by the home 'keeper; Ammies' captain Thomas Killen-Talbot then stepped up to take the winning spot kick, as Wythenshawe Amateurs edged through by 5-3 and now face Chorley FC Youth at Hollyhedge Park in the next round in a fortnight's time.
