FC United of Manchester Academy 'A' team's penultimate league match in the AoC Sport Summer Series - North West Men's Football Championship Group 1 competition saw the Young Reds record a 2-1 home win against nearest challengers Chorley FC BTEC Team One on Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon.
A low left wing cross by Israel Aghahowa allowed JACK BENNETT to force the ball home for the opener for FC United on 13 minutes before the visitors drew level when JOSH STANSFIELD was allowed to break through the home defence on 19 minutes.
The visitors might then have edged in front but for a couple of good saves by Lenny Fieldhouse in the FC United goal.
Into the second half and Chorley's Adam Chadwick cleared off the line to prevent Christian Edokpayi from scoring on 58 minutes before FC United got the goal they needed on 78 minutes.
An innocuous-looking high ball was superbly controlled by substitute TAYLOR McDOWELL whose follow up low shot was steered just wide of 'keeper Daniel Cox for what proved to be the winner.
The result leaves FC United three points clear at the top of the four team mini league table going into their final fixture next Wednesday.
