FC United win away at Macclesfield

FC United continued their good pre-season form with a third consecutive victory – this time wining 1-0 at at Macclesfield FC thanks to an early second half goal by Ali Waddecar.

The first half, in all honesty, wasn’t a great spectacle with the Reds seeing the majority of the ball but struggling to break through the home defence.

However, there were a couple of great chances with Tre Pemberton being played in and seeing his shot saved well by Steve Hodgson and Charlie Ennis forcing his way through and again seeing Hodgson equal to his shot.

The second half couldn’t have started any better for FC United when a corner from the left found its way to Waddecar who fired the ball home for 1-0. Two minutes later, Waddecar tested Hodgson again but the keeper saved comfortably.

Cedric Main had had a quiet night so far, but he exploded into action in the second period, showing his power to force a chance that Hodgson tipped wide. Just before the hour mark, Main was again in the action powering a shot against the inside of the post.

The Silkmen did have a couple of chances, capitalising on a Curtis Jones slip, but the cross came to nothing and moments later a trialist chipped the ball onto the top of the crossbar.

It was the Reds who finished the strongest with Keaton Mulvey firing wide and Main seeing a header over the bar.

It was a good second half performance from FC United who showed the form from previous friendlies, which bodes well for the trip to Banbury United on Saturday

Website man of the match – Ali Waddecar. Had a fairly quiet first half, but showed his quality in the second, covering lots of the pitch, playing in his teammates and of course scoring what turned out to be the winning goal.
