FC United of Manchester Academy 'A' team eked out a narrow 2-1 home win, against the Pro Elite Football Academy from Bradford (West Yorkshire), in their latest friendly match on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Monday afternoon.
After spurning numerous early chances, the Young Reds took the lead on 22 minutes. Favour Bolaji dispossessed a visiting defender before setting up INACIO BALDE who steered home from six yards out.
On 38 minutes, Christian Edokpayi saw a fierce shot pushed onto the post by the visitors' keeper, which might have put the home side two goals up.
A minute before half time, the visitors' MEHKI ROBERTON made the home side's profligacy pay by latching on to a right wing cross before smashing the ball past FC United goalkeeper Josh Brooks from close range.
On 70 minutes, FC United edged back in front, TOBY HUMPHRIES collecting the ball from Jermaine Kitoko before steering the ball home from just inside the penalty area.
Two minutes later, a rasping effort from FC's Silas Itotayagbon rattled the crossbar before rebounding out of play and there was still time for a shot from the visitors' No. 11 to glance off the far upright with just seven minutes remaining on the clock for what would have been a hard fought equaliser.
