FC United of Manchester Youth team’s FA Youth Cup progress came to an end at the First Round Proper stage (only the second time ever that they have got this far) following a somewhat one sided 0-6 defeat at Boundary Park, Oldham on Wednesday evening. (Match played behind closed doors).

In truth, this was a fairly comfortable win for the home side against a rather overawed Young Reds side who looked to be giving the ball away a little too frequently in the early stages.
The writing was on the wall as early as the ninth minute when Junior Luamba’s low cross from the left was steered past his own ’keeper by the unfortunate NATHANIEL EGYIRI (o.g.)
Worse was to follow on 14 minutes when Alex Yates’ attempted clearance was charged down, allowing KANE BADBY to quickly counter attack down the middle and lift the ball past FC United ’keeper Lenny Fieldhouse for goal number two.
And the visitors were soon three down on 23 minutes when the ball was again lost allowing VANI DA SILVA the simplest of finishes.
That made the score 3-0 to Oldham at the half time interval.
Jack Ward went closest for the visitors with a curling shot from a Tyler Owen left wing cross on 54 minutes, but that was about as near as FC United came to testing home net minder Kacper Danielewicz.
Any thoughts of a comeback were finally extinguished on 57 minutes when a low pass across the face of the goal was rolled home by Oldham’s unmarked No. 2 SEAN HIGGINS.
A close range header by DREW BAKER on 74 minutes from a Vani Da Silva free kick then made it five, before JOSEPH EDWARDS was allowed too much room in the box to turn and fire home a final (sixth) goal on 87 minutes.
Not too many plus marks for FC United on a somewhat disappointing evening, except perhaps goalkeeper (and team captain) Lenny Fieldhouse, who had a particularly busy evening, making a series of good saves to keep the score down.
