FC United of Manchester’s Academy ’B’ team made it through to the final of the season 2018-2019 Greater Manchester Schools FA Under 18s County Cup competition with this narrow 4-3 home win after extra time against Aquinas College ’B’ team on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Friday afternoon.

The home side opened the scoring on 19 minutes. Max Lewens flicked on a Kane Stockley corner and MASON BREEZE was on hand to turn the ball home from close range.

Unfortunately for the centre-back, he was on the scoresheet again soon after, but this time for Aquinas’s equaliser on 33 minutes, unluckily diverting a right win cross past his own ’keeper.

With the scores level at 1-1 at half-time, the Young Reds went in front on 46 minutes. Two Aquinas players collided with each other allowing DILLON KIRKMAN the simplest of tasks to roll the ball into the unguarded net from the edge of the penalty area.

The lead didn’t last long, however. On 53 minutes, the visitors drew level as SAUL HOGAN netted from the edge of the six yard box.

Worse was to follow as CAMERON COOP deservedly put Aquinas ’B’ in front on 57 minutes to make it 3-2 in the visitors’ favour.

FC United were peppering the visitors’ goal but with little reward, and just when it looked as if an equaliser might well evade them, the Young Reds grabbed the equaliser on 85 minutes, Dillon Kirkman picking out SAM IWEGBU who finished from close range.

That took the tie into extra time, and with penalties looming, NIALL WEBB got what proved to be the winner with a superb 35 yarder on 103 minutes that sent the Young Reds into the County Cup final.

Details for the final tie will be announced in due course as and when known.
