FC UNITED of MANCHESTER ACADEMY 'A' TEAM 1 CITY OF LIVERPOOL FC UNDER 17s 2
FC United of Manchester’s Academy ’A’ team, without a league game this week, instead played a challenge match on Tuesday afternoon against City of Liverpool FC’s under 17’s on the Broadhurst Park 3G, narrowly going down by two goals to one.
Whichever team scored first would take a huge advantage and it was the visitors who took an early lead after just five minutes, BRAD DLAMINI’s long-range effort from outside the area taking a massive deflection which completely wrong-footed home ’keeper Mason Walker.
They then had the ball in the FC United goal a second time on 30 minutes, but this effort was chalked off for offside.
On 40 minutes, the FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team drew level. LEO PINTO ROCHA dispossessed an opposing player on the left touchline before cutting inside, before beating two more players and placing a low shot past the visiting goalkeeper.
On 70 minutes, City of Liverpool FC under 17s grabbed what ultimately proved to be the winner. A cross came in from the left and ISAAC BYRNE was well placed to fire home from just inside the penalty area.
With a minute left to go, the Young Reds almost snatched a late equaliser, but the visiting ’keeper pulled off a fine save to deny Zaid Baroudi’s on-target header, as City of Liverpool FC under 17’s held on for a 2-1 win.
FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team are next in action with an away league match against The Football College, Bury , Men’s 1sts on Wednesday 27th February 2019.
