FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH TEAM 4 SALFORD UNIVERSITY XI 4
FC United Of Manchester Youth came back from behind to snatch a 4-4 home draw in Wednesday afternoon’s hotly-contested challenge match against a Salford University XI on the Broadhurst Park 3G.

The visitors had opened the scoring on 10 minutes after Ben Fletcher had conceded an unnecessary penalty. SAM HATTON stepped up to send Sulaiman Sajjad the wrong way from the 12 yard spot.

The Young Reds’ equaliser, which came on 33 minutes, was also from the penalty mark. Temi Oropo had been bundled over by the Salford ’keeper and JAY BRENNAN blasted home the resultant spot kick, hard and low.

The home side were on level terms for just two minutes, however, when an unchallenged JERRY BEATSON headed home from a right wing cross to give Salford a 2-1 lead at the interval.

On 50 minutes, the FC United of Manchester Youth team drew level again when MAX LEWENS ran in unopposed from the left and found the net with a rasping low shot.

That made it 2-2, and the Young Reds then went ahead on 59 minutes when SAM O’DONNELL’s long range free-kick curled into the top corner after Mason Gregg had been fouled some 35 yards out.

Salford University weren’t out of it yet, and on 63 minutes they made it 3-3, trialist home substitute Kuene Fernandes unable to prevent JOE HINGUARD’s close range effort from trundling over the line.

With the clock ticking down, FC United of Manchester Youth had the opportunity of regaining the lead, but Max Lewens’ fiercely-struck 78th minute penalty kick was well saved by the Salford ’keeper.

And it was the visitors who were to score next on 83 minutes, SAM HATTON finding the net with a long range effort from the far touchline to make it 3-4.

With just four minutes remaining, the home side grabbed a deserved equaliser. Centre-back Jan Palinkas got on to the end of a curling Elliot Jorge Simoes Inacio free-kick, forcing the ball in off a Salford defender to make the final score 4-4.
