Match Report
On a warm glorious day in Nuneaton, FC United ran out 4-1 victors in their final away game of the 2016-17 season with goals from Sam Sheridan, Jordan Fagbola, Matthew Wolfenden, and George Thomson.

The game started in a bright manner with FC on the front foot. George Thomson had the first sight of goal, producing a good save from Tyrell Belford on six minutes. The home side also had a couple of half chances but it seemed The Reds would be the ones who took the lead.

They did but it took 42 minutes. The ball pinged around the Nuneaton box before finding Sam Sheridan at the edge of the box who fired a shot into the net via the far post.

This wasn’t the end of the action in the half as Sheridan turned hero to villain in injury time as he lost the ball in his own half, the ball was played into Jordan Nicholson who rolled the ball past Ryan Schofield. It was harsh on Sheridan as he had been one of the main driving forces in the FC first half performance.

Nuneaton seemed buoyed by this goal and they started the second half on the front foot, skipper Kelvin Langmead seeing a header well saved by Schofield.

On 57 minutes, FC United retook the lead. Luke Ashworth, trying to repeat his efforts against Curzon, put in a great cross that wasn’t dealt with by the home defence. Thomson pulled the ball back to Jordan Fagbola who turned and finished well for his first FC goal.

Four minutes later the lead was extended as a good FC move saw Sheridan cross for Matthew Wolfenden to glance last Belford. Nuneaton were having chances at the other end but poor finishing let them down, no more so when Nicholson was played clear but blazed wide of the target.

With 15 minutes on the clock, Thomson beat the offside trap to clip the ball into the net. Nicholson had another good chance at the other end but Schofield pulled off a superb reaction save.

The game petered out in the last few minutes to see FC home and pick up three well earned points.

Website man of the match - A few contenders this week but George Thomson takes the awards for a busy display that saw home score one goal and hand a hand in another.
