FC United’s academy team progressed through to the semi-finals of the Greater Manchester Schools FA Under 18’s County Cup competition with this 6-1 home win against Hopwood Hall College Men’s 1sts on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon.

The young Reds opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Cameron Horner had been tripped on 23 minutes; JACK WARD sending the ’keeper the wrong way.

On 44 minutes, JACK WARD added a second for the home side with a low shot just inside the post to give the Academy side a 2-0 interval lead.

On 53 minutes, WILL SHAWCROSS made it 3-0 when he finished a Jack Ward centre with considerable aplomb.

And on 58 minutes, JACK WARD completed his hat-trick when he slotted home a Kamahl Fuller pass.

The scoring hadn’t finished yet, and STEVE WHETHAM made it 5-0 for the cup holders on 62 minutes with a shot from the narrowest of angles.

Oumar Camara pulled one back for Hopwood Hall College Men’s 1sts on 83 minutes to give the visitors a degree of consolation, but there was still time for JACK PRESTON to add a sixth for FC United’s academy team to make the final score 6-1.
