SMRE opening: One not to be missed

SMRE opening: One not to be missed After a summer of work, the development of the St Mary’s Road End at Broadhurst Park, home of FC United of Manchester, is near completion and we are delighted to confirm that this Saturday (8 September) has been marked as the official re-opening.

At the end of last season work commenced on turning the area under the St. Mary’s Road End terrace into a multi-functional community space using funding from Power to Change, Sport England and the M&S Energy Fund.

The primary work is now complete with the planned opening date being next Saturday when FC United take on Southport.

To mark the re-opening, Course You Can Malcolm will return and will hosting a selection of live theatre and music ahead of the 3pm kick off. Former Manchester United and Scotland captain, Martin Buchan, will cut the ribbon at one o’clock before MaD Theatre Company perform a preview of their new play, It’s the Wrong Way to Tickle Mary.

A quiz, auction and raffle will keep everyone entertained before highly-rated, up-and-coming Manchester band Scuttlers play a live set at 2.15pm.

Event running order:

• 12.00: doors open

• 12.45: Welcome

• 1.00: Martin Buchan

• 1.20: MaD Theatre Company

• 1.50: Quiz

• 2.15: Scuttlers

Once the remaining works have been completed, the St Mary’s Road End will provide a multi-functional community space and match day supporters’ facility. It will be used for the benefit of local people in Moston and across North Manchester as part of FC United’s extensive community programme.

Additionally, the space will also be available for hire by local community groups for a range of activities that are likely to include weight training, over 60s fitness classes, health and wellbeing activities, youth clubs, homework clubs, community group meetings and employment workshops.

The development has been made possible by funding from Power to Change, Sport England and the supporters who voted for us to receive the M&S Energy Fund. The Club would like to thank them for their generous support, and would also like to thank the FC United volunteers who have provided invaluable assistance throughout the refurbishment works.

We hope you all can attend as we mark another memorable day in the history of FC United of Manchester!
