Scoring for the Community

At FC United our members set out to be a supporter-run community club that works with the community, and that is exactly what we have achieved. The fans wanted to be able to watch entertaining football at an affordable price. On the Matchday experience our proud record is three back to back promotions and ground entry at £7.50 and £2 for children for our 2,000+ fan.

Recognising football’s important role in developing and uniting communities we have also developed this aspect of the club’s activities, working with over 100 local organisations, including schools, colleges, sports clubs, youth clubs, mosques, churches, ethnic minority organisations, housing associations, councils, Connexions, NACRO, Youth Offenders Teams, residential care homes, organisations for disabled people, childrens charities, refugee projects and youth advocacy.

We continually raise funding to further this work. 300 FC United members are involved in delivery alongside our dedicated club staff, players and coaches. Our funding partners include organisations in both the private and public sectors e.g. The Co-op, Alberts of Salford, Manchester and Salford Council, New Charter Housing Trust, Bury Primary Care Trust, MANCAT, Bernardo’s and Northerncare,
One current example is our delivery of Healthy Eating courses to 900 children in Bury Primary Schools. Elsewhere we work with high risk and at risk young people mentoring and assisting in engagement skills, delivering estate-based youth work. We run workshops, we help local organisations to raise funds and we develop teaching materials.

This season we will be going into schools and reaching 10,000 young people in regard to healthy eating and other educational and sporting projects. Each pupil will also receive one of our very popular FC United P. E. kitbags.

We stage football tournaments and coaching sessions for young people in care, schools and other organisations. Our annual People United Day brings 1,000 young people to a free Matchday celebration of ethnic diversity and unity, and our annual Youth United Day involves over 1,000 young people participating in a free Matchday festival of youth achievement.

• Assisting our communities - we regularly assist local community groups through our activities and work to improve and develop the community, both locally and internationally

• Inclusion - we aim to bring together in a spirit of inclusion and involvement all sections of the community and the sporting world

• Education, training and information - we encourage and assist in education of the community, our members and staff
