Player News: Paddy Wharton

Following the knee injury that Paddy Wharton sustained, and after a period of recuperation, we spent several weeks putting him through a programme to rebuild the strength and allow for a full recovery.

Once back to full fitness we agreed to loan him to Atherton Collieries with a ’gentleman’s agreement’ that he would not be selected to play against us, nor be selected to play in the FA Trophy, which we made known when we announced the move via social media.

We are very disappointed that despite this agreement, Paddy has made himself available for, and been selected by, Atherton Collieries to play in this evening’s Buildbase FA Trophy game against Barrow. His selection means that should FC United progress in the competition, he cannot now be selected by us this season as he is ’cup-tied’.

We are working very hard to deliver success for FC United both on and off the pitch, and need everyone to work together to deliver this success for the whole team.

Given the circumstances we have decided that we will not be seeking to re-register Paddy as an FC United player. We put on record our thanks for his contribution in his time with us.
