Newton Heath Banner Making Workshop

FC United held a banner making workshop at Newton Heath Library on April the 7th and 8th, in order to design the Youth United day banner for Newton Heath. The workshop was led by FC United manager Karl Marginson alongside Chorlton based artist Michelle Laverty and FC United Volunteer Brian Pendlebury, with Newton Heath Library staff proving valuable assistance. The workshop had 20 very enthusiastic and creative local children in attendance.

The first day began with the children brainstorming ideas for the banner and then when a design was settled upon, reading ‘Newton Heath: History in the Making’, they all set about making the banner become a reality by the end of the two days. Throughout the two days Karl Marginson led the children in a number of different games, both football and non-football related, alongside the banner making and a multitude of prizes were given out to everyone taking part.

Some Photos from the Day

Here are some of the things that the kids in attendance said about the two days - ‘Excellent’, ‘Brilliant’, ‘The banner is sick’, ‘The banner’s really good’, ‘Headers and Volleys with Karl was the best’.

The Banner Makers

FC United Manager Karl Marginson said ‘It’s been a fantastic two days; the kids have put in a lot of effort and made a fantastic banner. A great big thank you to Michelle Laverty and Brian Pendlebury for all their efforts and endeavours over the last two days. We look forward to showing off the banner at Youth United Day and to keep building on our relationship with the Newton Heath community’.
