New home shirt production delayed – April Fools!

We're pleased to say that the following story was an April Fools joke and there are no delays with the production of our new home kit, which will be available to buy in all its traditional red glory later this year. Most supporters clocked the joke but a few people did fall for it, including a couple of kit suppliers who offered to step in and help!

We hope by continuing the tradition of posting an April Fools on the website we have brought a few smiles to faces after what has been a tough year for many of us. In case you missed it, you can still read the story below and cast your vote in the poll. The sleuths amongst you might have spotted a hidden message in the choice of colours available:

We regret to inform supporters that our kit suppliers have advised the club it may not be possible to deliver our new home shirt in time for the beginning of the 2021/22 season and we are currently seeking alternative options.

We were informed on Monday that the suppliers have missed the production schedule in Turkey because the state-of-the art, high performance fabric being used to produce the shirts was caught up in the Suez Canal blockage delay last week. The shirts may now not be ready until mid-August.   

Upon hearing the news, we immediately sought special dispensation from the Northern Premier League to play in last season’s kit. However, after an initial discussion, the league has signalled this may not be possible due to contractual agreements with its new sponsors. 

As a contingency plan, our kit suppliers have offered to send a shipment of similar playing shirts from Turkey. However, the shirts currently available are not FC United red. Frustratingly, they are not even red at all. 

Obviously, this situation is hugely disappointing but we need to explore all options available to us. So, before the Board makes a decision on the best way forward, we would like to ask supporters to vote on which colours, if any, would be acceptable for our pre-season friendlies and possibly the first few games of the season. We will have some graphic samples available online as soon as possible and supporters can vote now by clicking here.
