MATCH PREVIEW: FC United v Spennymoor

MATCH PREVIEW: FC United v Spennymoor We look to head into 2019 on a positive note as we approach the second half of the season, with a win in our final home game of the calendar year against high flying Spennymoor Town.

In our previous home game, it was a very disappointing outing for FC as we fell to a 4-1 defeat against promotion chasing Chorley who we face in our first game of 2019. Arguably, things could have been much different had Kurt Willoughby hadn’t have a goal controversially disallowed when the score was 1-1.

The result saw us drop back into the relegation zone after Hereford picked up a 1-0 over Kidderminster win to go ahead of us on goal difference. A win for us against Spennymoor, could see us move out of the relegation zone depending on results elsewhere. However, a defeat could see us drop down to 21st if Ashton United win their game.

As it pertains to our recent form, in the last five games for FC we have picked up only one win, drawn once and suffered three defeats. Our home form has been of concern this season, having only picked up seven points at Broadhurst and accumulating 14 points away from home.

As for our opponents, Spennymoor Town are enjoying a very productive season. The Moors have built on the foundations they set last season finishing in eighth place in the 2017/18 season. They are currently in sixth place after 20 games, having picked up 34 points this season, with 19 points of those 34 coming away from home.

In their previous game, they drew 2-2 away at Blyth Spartans. Goals from Mark Anderson and Andrew Johnson ensured that The Moors shared the spoils away at Blyth.

The Moors are currently on a decent run of from having picked up 8 points from a possible 15 in their last five games and they could move up to third with a win over FC. The Reds will have to watch out for Glen Taylor, the striker is the top scorer of the league having scored 14 goals, scoring a goal on average every 127 minutes.
