FC United can confirm that Jerome Wright has today signed for Chester FC.
Jerome was offered a new deal to stay at FC United but has taken the decision to move on.
Manager Karl Marginson said: “Obviously we’re always disappointed to lose good players and we always wish the lads well. We do the best we can by the all players and offer them what we can in appreciation of their efforts.
“Over the past few weeks we have offered almost the entire squad an increase on their basic pay and there have been instances where that’s not been enough to keep players. What we won’t do is jeopardise the finances of the club for the sake of a player’s demands.
“However we are in the process of discussing terms with other players and I’m confident we’ll be in great shape again for next season.???
Jerome told FC United this morning: “It was a massively difficult decision and it took weeks to make. I’ve decided to move on but over the years I’ve had a better life football-wise than I ever expected and I’ll never forget the five years FC United gave me.
“I’ve become a fan during that time and got some great friends at the club, be they players, staff or fans. I’ll miss every person there but I’ve got a red no 10 shirt with some photos at home so I’ll never forget how lucky I was.???
And Scott McManus, who we announced last week has signed for Halifax, also paid tribute to the club and the fans.
He said: “I’m sorry I had to leave – the only reasons I did so were for a greater degree of financial security so I can support my daughter, and to help progress my football career at a higher level.
“The season I spent with FC United has been my best yet in football and I’d like to say thank you to Margy and Souley for finding me and putting me into their team, and thank the fans for the best support I’ve seen – all season long, through both the good and the bad games.???
FC United will publish as soon as possible a further update on players who have signed up alongside Michael Norton for next season.
