At the Annual General Meeting of the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League on Monday 9th June, FC United of Manchester’s women’s team were named as League Team of the Year.
The award recognises the overall running of a team, in particular the off-pitch activities that are so unseen much of the time. Positive feedback regarding the professionalism of the set-up at FC United is often received from officials and other clubs alike, so this formal recognition by the League was very welcome.
Match Day Secretary Kate Ramsey said, “This award recognises the contribution of our many volunteers, all of whom support the women’s team in their own way. Whether filming, selling programmes, catering, putting up nets, writing match day reports, completing paperwork or doing any of the other off-pitch tasks, our volunteers are the base on which this team is built. I was delighted to pick this award up on their behalf.???
Manager Lee Sutton said, “I would like to congratulate everyone involved with FC United’s women’s team in winning the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League’s Team of the Year for 2013/14. It shows the great efforts put into something people believe in and run by volunteers. It shows the hard work is worth it, not just on the pitch, but off it is just as important. The administration and organisation is really important but is what people don’t see. The short summer break is here, but trials and pre-season are nearly upon us, so we start again for the love of football. Once again a big well done to everyone and keep up the good work.???
The award rounds off a season when the women’s team won the Keele Plate, finished as runners up in the County Cup, League runners up and League Cup winners. The women’s futsal team is also playing in national finals in London next week see here
