FC United’s women’s team accepted into National League Division One North

FC United is delighted to announce that our women’s team has been accepted into the National League Division One North (Level 4 of the FA pyramid) for the 2021/2022 season.

Following two covid-hit seasons, the team were twice denied the chance of gaining promotion from the North West Women's Regional Football League, but today they have been accepted into the division above by the Women’s Football Board.

The Reds will now have the opportunity to showcase their talents at a national level while taking on the likes of Leeds United, Newcastle United and Stockport County.

Club captain Kirsty Chambers was delighted with the decision. She said: “I am over the moon about us being promoted to the National League. I’ve played for FC United for nearly 10 years and to receive this news is definitely one of the highlights for me so far.

“We’ve come so far and worked so hard from where the women’s team started and I know we can go further. Unfortunately, it’s not the way we wanted to gain promotion but due to covid there was no other choice.”

Challenge
Chambers added: “We know the Division One North is going to be tough for us, playing against strong and well organised opponents, but it’s a challenge we’re more than ready for and we cannot wait to show off our football in this league.”

Vice-captain Cara Fields added: “After what feels like forever, we’ve finally got the promotion we deserve and I couldn’t be happier for the team. It means so much to us. We’ve worked so hard for this!

“When I signed for FC United four years ago, it was always a goal of mine to help the club reach the National League where we belong – so I’m buzzing to finally get the verdict that we’ve secured the upward movement.

“Unfortunately, it’s not under the circumstances we wanted by winning the league ourselves, but after a nightmare two seasons with covid, we’ll take it and grab it with both hands!”

Amazing
Speaking about FC United and the future aims of the team, Fields added: “It’s a great environment with fantastic facilities, amazing support from the fans and solid backing from the club. We’ll need that more than ever next season.

“There’s been lots of changes and challenges in the past two seasons but the hard work starts now to make sure we’re ready to push on and prove why we deserved the opportunity to play in this league.”

Congratulations to our women’s team. We look forward to seeing them showcase their ability at a national level next season. Look out for the fixture announcements in the coming weeks and get yourself to that football ground.
