FC United travel to Telford hoping to close gap on Guiseley

The Reds travel to Telford, to face a side with play-off aspirations as we look to narrow that gap between us and Guiseley in 19th to just three points but it will be a difficult task against a strong AFC Telford United side.

With only nine games to go, it’s no secret that we need to amount and collect as many points as possible as we look to avoid the drop, admittedly it will be tough, but we have to fight until the very last game.

The last three results for FC however does provide us with some belief going forward. Three draws have seen the gap narrow from eight points to six and to potentially three points if results go our away and we manage to pick up all three points on Saturday.

Two of those draws came at Broadhurst, which halted an unwanted record for us of going five games without picking up a single point at home this season.

Those draws for us and in particular the 3-3 draw with Guiseley shows us that the spirit is still there, it’s just the luck as of late hasn’t fallen in our favour and we are dealing fine margins, such is football.

In our last game, the boys fought valiantly to come away with a point against a Hereford side that isn’t quite clear of the relegation battle just yet. Goals from Craig Sharp and a 91st minute free-kick from the skipper Kurt Willoughby whose free-kick rescued a point for FC whilst getting his 14th league goal of the season.

As for our opponents AFC Telford United, they are currently sixth in the league and with nine games to go are looking to solidify one of those play-off positions.

A win for The Bucks would see them maintain their four-point advantage over Kidderminster Harriers who are in eighth, however should results elsewhere go in their favour they could move up to fourth and potentially three points off third place.

They come into this game having picked up eight points from a possible 15 having won two, drawn two and losing once in a 3-2 defeat against Stockport County. AFC Telford United do boast quite an impressive home record this season, having picked up 34 points from a possible 48 at the New Bucks Head.

In the previous game between the two sides this season, AFC Telford United picked up all three points at Broadhurst in a 2-1 win back in November.
