FC United members choose Broadhurst Park as name for new ground

FC United members have chosen Broadhurst Park as the name for our new football ground and community facility in Moston, north Manchester which is due for completion in September this year.

We are proud to have bucked the trend of clubs selling naming rights to their stadiums by asking our members, all of whom are co-owners of the club, to choose the name of the new ground from a shortlist of seven names which were also chosen by FC United members. The shortlist was whittled down from a long list of over 100 names made up of suggestions from the club’s supporters and members of the local community in Moston.

Voting on the new name took place at a general meeting of FC United members in Manchester on 10 April and Broadhurst Park topped the poll. The alternative vote system was used but Broadhurst Park was selected outright because it received more than 50% of the vote.

Naming the ground is something that is important, not just to our football club and our local partners Moston Juniors, but also to the people in the surrounding community who will use the facilities. At FC United, supporters are at the centre of everything that we do as a club. Our supporters have been instrumental in getting us to a point where we are building our own ground; they have helped to finance it and now they have given our new home a name. Supporters have had a real say all the way through and it shows how engaged our membership is in democratically shaping the direction of the club they own.

Giving the ground a name is another staging post along the road to us finally opening the facility later this year. We still have much to do and funds to raise to make our dream a reality, but being able to finally talk about Broadhurst Park makes that reality a step closer. The full address of the new ground will be FC United of Manchester, Broadhurst Park, Lightbowne Road, Manchester, with the postcode yet to be allocated.

Thanks for all your support in getting us to this point - and don’t forget, you can help ensure that we kit out the ground in the best way possible by supporting our Crowdfunder appeal at http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/kit-it-out
