FC United is looking for new TV stars!

Could you help run our voluntary FCUM TV service?

The team has been staffed and operated by volunteers since FC United of Manchester was first established, and due to personal commitments, the current team is unable to maintain the service into the new season.

So, we are now appealing for new volunteers with the right skills and experience to come forward and get involved.

What do we need?

Volunteer camera operators:

  • Experience and skill in setting up and operating broadcast-standard cameras to film/record our home games
  • Arrive at Broadhurst Park up to two hours before kick-off to set up and test connections, picture and sound check in our gantry
  • Film the entire match, keeping up with the action throughout capturing high quality footage
  • Film/record post-match interviews with the manager/players
  • Pack away the kit, hand over the match footage on SD card to the editor and return the camera batteries to the club office for charging

Volunteer editors:

  • Experience and skill in using high quality software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier to edit footage, adding captions, music and syncing commentary
  • We anticipate editors will be able to use a club MacBook loaded with the appropriate software
  • Collect SD cards containing match footage from the camera operator at full time
  • Ability to meet league deadlines for the provision of edited footage by 11.59pm on the day after the match, via Dropbox
  • Capacity to allow from four to seven hours to complete the editing work in full for each match including uploads (based on experience of previous editors – time will vary depending on match incidents, connection speeds etc)
  • Ability to upload highlights to FCUM TV’s YouTube and Vimeo channels
  • Provide a version of the full match footage to the first team manager for review
  • Return SD cards to the camera operator at least 45 minutes before kick-off at the next home match
  • Ensure the club laptop is kept safe and returned to the club for use by other editors as necessary

Volunteers commentators/interviewers:

  • Ability to provide commentary on action throughout the game, clearly articulating the flow of play and any incidents
  • Arrive in the gantry at least 20 minutes before kick-off to review team sheets, assist the camera operator with testing mic connections and sound checking
  • Prepare for and conduct post-match interviews with the manager/players
  • Assist the camera operator in packing away kit after filming and interviews have completed

Ideally we’d like to build a pool of volunteers, so the TV team can manage its own rota of cover for home games. Please note, we do need volunteers who can commit to the service for the full season. Providing highlights to the league is a requirement and non-compliance could result in a fine or even points deduction.

If you have the skills and time we are looking for, please get in touch! Email a summary of your relevant skills and experience to paul.smith@fc-utd.net and viv.ware@fc-utd.net by Friday, July 30th.

Our first home game to be covered will be against Morpeth Town on Tuesday, August 17th.
