FC aim to fly high in the Fenix Trophy again next season

After winning the inaugural Fenix Trophy in June, FC United will be entering the competition again in the coming 2022/23 season.

The club’s elected board voted in favour of taking part again in a move which will see manager Neil Reynolds and his squad defend the trophy after winning the tournament in Rimini, Italy.

Club chair Adrian Seddon said: “We may describe ourselves as champions of Europe with tongues in cheeks but being in a fantastic Euro competition and winning it during an incredible away trip has created a real buzz around the club.

“Being able to talk about European cup football is also a fantastic bonus for Neil as he signs up his squad for the season and it gives our supporters another chance of Euro aways throughout the season.

“The board understands that not everyone will be able to do away games, but the home games will be exciting prospects and I hope everyone will get behind it to make it a success again.”

The tournament organisers are committed to streaming all games lives for free on YouTube so anyone who can’t attend a game in person can still follow all the action.

Neil Reynolds added: “Winning the tournament meant so much to me and the lads. We can’t wait to show off the trophy at the start of the new season and the players love the idea of going again.

“It’s yet another reason to be part of this club and we are looking forward to defending our trophy.”

A financial analysis of FC United’s participation in the inaugural tournament has been completed and will be shared with co-owners shortly.

Details of the new season’s tournament will be published during the summer. Click here for more information about the Fenix Trophy.
