Course You Can Malcolm: Friday 11th May

Course You Can Malcolm: Friday 11th MayCYCM returns to the function room next Friday with music from Revenge of the Psychotronic Man and Callow Youth. Doors open at 7pm. More details to be announced…

Over to you Malcolms…..
CYCM returns to the function room at Broadhurst Park on the evening of Friday 11 May with something old, something new, something borrowed and … something blue.
One of our favourite turns from our Gigg Lane days, Revenge of the Psychotronic Man, got in touch to tell us they’re splitting up. That’s the bad news. The good news is that before they go their separate ways only to all end up in the same retirement home for ageing punks (a.k.a. Buxton), they’re determined to play one last time for FC United. We’re looking forward to welcoming them back.

At the same time, we’ve got something new for you as well: Callow Youth. (The irony’s not lost on us, either…). Four lads from North East Manchester who look that young they might well be on FC’s bench as you’re reading this, their recent recording session was fuelled by jam butties supplied by the drummer’s mam (hence the catchy title of their new single, ‘Into the Sunblest’). They won’t be needing to smuggle butties into CYCM though as there’ll be tater ‘ash in borrowed bowls from Westwell’s, along with homemade vegan food lovingly prepared by one of our volunteers. In the blue corner, we’ll have our friend Ameen Hadi, stalwart of Save Our Salford Nurseries, talking about football and anti-racism.

As if all this wasn’t enough, we’re working on even more turns, with details to follow via the usual anti-social media channels. As usual, there’ll be a raffle, quiz and other devious devices to part you from your hard-earned as we all seek to do our bit to mitigate the May’s-a-devil-of-a-month-for-the-cashflow quandary that the club always faces at this time of year.
Little did we know, thirteen years ago, what was about to befall us when we turned in for the night on May the 11th. This running your own football club business is testing us to our limits right now. But to steal a line from Eric: behind the function room windows at FC United of Manchester, as we gaze out over the twinkling lights of Oldham, there will be an insane love of football, of celebration and of music. Doors open at 7. Get yourselves to that football ground.
