Christmas Comforts 2020

Christmas Comforts 2020

Our Christmas Comforts campaign is back and after this unprecedented year, we are more determined than ever to bring some Christmas cheer to help shine a light during what can be a very dark time for many families.

Although Covid restrictions mean we won’t be able to run the event in its normal format, we will still be delivering presents and Christmas hampers including food, toys and toiletries, in the week leading up to Christmas Day, and continuing to deliver important supplies throughout the festive period and beyond via our Community FoodHub.

Sheridan Lifts have very kindly stepped forward to support our Christmas Comforts campaign as the main sponsor for the second year running and we are extremely grateful for their partnership. They said: “Sheridan Lifts are proud to sponsor FC United’s Christmas Comforts campaign for the second year running. We will be helping to deliver Christmas alongside FC United, to families who would welcome some Christmas cheer during this festive period. Our drivers will be happy to be involved in the distribution of this year’s Christmas Comforts.”

Our sincere thanks also goes to FareShare for their continuing hard work and support of our community projects.

Who are we helping?

The Christmas Comforts campaign will this year support over 100 vulnerable families from different areas of our community. Amongst them, we will support the hidden homeless of families fleeing domestic violence in temporary accommodation across the city. These families have little access to previous home comforts and essentials. As others have in previous years, they will benefit from our help at this stressful time of the year. These families have faced exacerbated hardship this year due to problems associated with the Covid crisis.

We will also be supporting our regular service users of the FoodHub, who include isolated older people, families facing hardship due to Covid, individuals awaiting Universal Credit payments, refugee families and much more. Each year, our Christmas Comforts campaign also supports an assisted living community neighbouring Broadhurst Park, providing them with a full Christmas dinner and all the ingredients for a lovely Christmas Day, to ensure those who cannot be with family at this time of the year have an extra special Christmas. In addition to these community action projects, we will also continue to support other foodbanks, alongside other homeless projects across Greater Manchester.

The Christmas Comforts campaign is accepting donations of new children’s toys, games and books, toiletries for women/men/teenagers and children of all ages, plus food for our hampers such as mince pies, Christmas chocolates and similar items.
