Southport’s origins date back to 1881 and they moved to Haig Avenue in 1905, known then as Southport Central. They joined the Football League as Southport in 1921 and finally lost their status in 1978, being replaced by Wigan Athletic.
Southport became founder members of the new Conference North in 2004–05, and were the league's first Champions, earning promotion back to the newly renamed Conference National.
Scott Kay made 43 League appearances for Southport between 2012-14. Joel Logan made 4 appearances for Southport in 2014. Connor McCarthy made 28 appearances for the Sandgrounders in 2014.
Nathan Lowe scored 9 goals in 42 appearances for FCUM between 2016-17. Jon Worsnop made 36 appearances for FCUM between 2012-13 and played for York City against the Reds in August. Jason Gilchrist scored 29 goals in 62 games for FCUM between 2016-17. Against Tamworth in November he became the first ever player to score a hat trick for Southport on his League debut.
Southport have not won any of their last 9 away in the League since winning the first three on the road in August.
FCUM are unbeaten in 6 Home League fixtures on a Sunday, winning 3 including a 3-1 success against Tamworth in September.
Southport’s win against Chorley on New Years Day was their first for 121 days.

It says there's no segregation, there's likely to be 200+ Southport fans. Is this normal?

Segregation is only put in place at the request of the visiting club or the Police.
There should be no issues tomorrow with Southport fans as long as you just want to come and enjoy the game and have a few drinks.

Here are a few from those who came to the game

I was there and thought we deserved a draw. They were no better than us and with a bit better finishing we could have got something out of it. We played much more positively than we'd have done a month ago and did look like we can string a few passes together. Yes we are not great but we are improving. Apart from the fact that they are in essence manchester united fans i was very impressed by the whole fcum set up. Lets have a stand like theirs on the pop side phil (terracing in front of seats) and a bar like tjeirs...what great revenue generation and social amenities that make that club part of its community. Surely we could do the pop up real ale bar with a local brewery.

Deserved a draw there. Thought the overall performance was pretty good and very encouraging to be honest (compared to most of the garbage we've had this season).
A strange place. Turned away from the car park at the school up the road "sorry we're full" despite there being an empty space right in front of me. So parked free of charge on the road and walked back as several cars were let in the car park!
Half a ground really. 2 sides decent with the other 2 having far more steelwork than is necesssary to cover flat standing.
A bit like watching a tribute band. You know everyone there prefers the real thing.

For the £15 I pay to get in our Main Stand (and play “avoid the raindrops”)I got in, bought a programme and had a pint with 15p change left! The Main Stand is great - properly banked seating, good toilets, great bar. The stewards are there to help not hinder you - most grounds you go to you’re seen as a pest, someone to be controlled whereas at FCUM (as long as you didn’t stand in the hashed areas) you could stand at the top or bottom of the stand, have a beer in sight of the pitch served from lots of different areas so no long queues, sit down for no extra charge, etc etc. I guess Phil was impressed by the set up at Salford when he proposed the new Popular Side but if possible some of the welcoming attributes of FCUM Ground should be used.

Some humbling thoughts from today:
1) We have just lost to a side containing Scott Kay and Connor McCarthy.
2) We have just lost to a side even though we signed their leading scorer off them little over a month ago.
3) FC Magdeburg probably had a similar number of fans their to us.
4) That is the third ground I have stood on that terrace (Northwich's old Danebank stand). It feels more like a caravan than a football terrace now.
5) That was their second highest attendance of the season (the highest being the battle of the Man Utd tribute acts). It is just more evidence that their principle of wanting Saturday 3pm kick-offs is a sham.

Arrived at the ground on a cold Sunday afternoon to a ground I had previously never been to. What a credit to fc United it is, I know it’s not finished but this should be the template for us when the ground refurbishment starts, friendly staff , go where you want, spacious seating and coffee that tastes like coffee, cheap admission and a wonderful looking ground for this level of football.
So to the game, we were definitely worth a draw but never really created enough chances.Sampson ran his heart out, Morgan and Lynch held the midfield together while Worsnop made some vital saves. New boy Smith was excellent and Sheron is a player we should try and sign, his reading of the game and composure are highlights of his game. We battled well today but lacked a bit of thrust and creativity, we need to find more space out wide and move the ball quicker to the front men. We seemed to be holding back too much deep into the second half when we should of been pressing more. I have not heard the KD interview but expect new players to come in soon. A good performance today just a little more intensity was needed, The team is starting to come together. Onwards and upwards.

I went today wanting to dislike FCUM (well they are a Man U offshoot after all) but have to say the ground was ok and the fans and stewards were excellent. Apart from the result, an enjoyable afternoon.
