Southport’s origins date back to 1881 and they moved to Haig Avenue in 1905, then known as Southport Central. They joined the Football League as Southport in 1921 and finally lost their status in 1978, being replaced by Wigan Athletic.
In 2018-19 the Sandgrounders won their first League Home game on December 26th at the 9th attempt. FCUM won their first League game at home on December 8th at the 10th attempt.
Jason Gilchrist scored 29 goals in 62 games for FCUM between 2016-17. Against Tamworth in November 2017 he became the first ever player to score a hat trick for Southport on his League debut. Gilchrist won the Divisional Golden Boot with 26 goals in 2017-18.
Manager Liam Watson has won the Conference North title 3 times, with Southport (2004-05 and 2009-10) and AFC Telford United (2013-14).
FCUM earned League point number 1000 in fixture number 584 last Saturday against Guiseley.
