Match Report
FC United continued their unbeaten start to the 2012-13 campaign with a hard fought 1-0 at Whitby Town thanks to a goal from Matthew Wolfenden.
It was the home who started well, in their superb Continental style kit with Graeme Armstrong shooting wide with just 5 minutes on the clock.
On 12 minutes, Adam Jones headed a Stephen Johnson corner goalwards but straight at Nick Liversedge.

Shortly before the half hour, the Whitby goal led a charmed life, when Michael Norton chased a seemingly lost cause near the touchline and robbed the ball from Liversedge. He turned back inside and rolled the ball towards the empty goal, but sadly it went wide of the far post. Norton probably had more time than he realised to take the ball nearer the goal to make the chance a little easier.

The Reds managed to get behind the home defence again on 38 minutes when Johnson went through on goal but Liversedge did well to take the ball from the attackers feet and clear the danger.

A minute to half time, the FC almost took the lead thanks to a dangerous cross from the left, Alex White clearing over his own bar.

The second half started slowly with regards to goalmouth action and it took 11 minutes for the first chance with Tom Portas firing past James Spencers post.

Two minutes later, FC took the lead when a great Johnson cross was headed goalwards by Norton. Liversedge tipped the ball up in the air but as it dropped, it was nodded in by a lurking Wolfenden.

The goal spurred The Seasiders into action, Shane Henry bringing a good save from Spencer, substitute Jamie Clarke firing wide and Spencer saving again from Henry all in a busy 15 minute spell in the FC half.

FC could have possibly should have doubled the lead with just 3 minutes left on the clock, Chris Amadi touching the ball through to Norton who saw his powerful shot very well tipped over by Liversedge. Jones headed the corner over.

It was a good three points for FC as Whitby away during the week is always a tough game and on their performance on the night you would have to expected The Seasiders to start picking up points soon.
