1 - 2
FC United of Manchester
FC United came from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win at Trafford in our last pre-season friendly thanks to second half goals from George Thomson and Matthew Walwyn.
With just four days until the season opener at Chorley the Reds may have been forgiven for not being too competitive in the game but this was far from the case as both teams went into some feisty looking challenges looking to get one over their near neighbours and some familiar faces.
The home team were the better of the two teams in the first half with former reds Kyle Jacobs, Lee Neville and Nicky Platt all putting in good performances but the game desperately needed a goal to get it going.
That goal came early in the second half as Mark Derbyshire fired the home team ahead but the Reds responded immediately when George Thomson coolly put the ball away to make it 1-1.
FC were the team on top and a George Thomson shot from outside the box was deflected on its way into the net and ruled out for offside. But the deserved victory was assured with three minutes left as the powerful Walwyn headed home to secure victory and take momentum into the season.
The pre-season must be considered a success on the field with a few stand out performances and several younger players staking claims for contention in the first team. Just weeks after opening with a crushing 5-1 defeat at Rhyl the team looks confident and ready for a big first week which sees three games in less than a week.
