STEVEN GERRARD ACADEMY XI 3 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER ACADEMY 'A' TEAM 8

FC United of Manchester Academy 'A' team's results so far in the AoC Sport North West Men's Football Invitational League this season have been decidedly high scoring, and Wednesday's encounter with the Steven Gerrard Academy in Chester was to prove no exception as the Young Reds recorded an 8-3 away victory.

The opening goal came on 14 minutes. A shot by Aaron Hughes following a good run was only parried by the home 'keeper, and DYLAN McKENNA was well placed to slot home the loose ball.

The Steven Gerrard Academy XI then countered with a long distance equaliser from their No. 11 on 20 minutes, before the home side then edged in front on 27 minutes.

And it might have been worse for the FC United Academy team. A foul conceded by George Kamara a minute later gave the home side the opportunity of increasing their lead from the penalty mark, but the spot kick hit the crossbar, bounced down and was adjudged not to have crossed the line.

The miss was to prove costly for the home side. On 36 minutes, RENATO NEVES grabbed an equaliser for FC United,  before a mazy run through the home defence by AARON HUGHES made it 3-2 on 41 minutes.

The second half resumed with FC United conceding a 2nd penalty within 30 seconds of the restart, which this time the home side converted, to make it 3-3.

But the visitors quickly countered again, AARON HUGHES got his second on 50 minutes, before another penalty, this time for the Young Reds, gave team captain GEORGE KAMARA the chance to make it 5-3 on 53 minutes, which opportunity was gratefully accepted.

The goalscoring was by no means over, however.

AARON HUGHES completed his hat-trick on 62 minutes, before LEWIS URSA looped home the seventh on 75 minutes following a fine cross from the right

And there was still time for EMMANUEL JOHNSON to slot home an 85th minute penalty kick to make the final score 8-3.
