5 - 1
This years youth team were given the expected stiff test from an older and stronger Springhead side but the result did not reflect the quality of play in what was only the second time they had been in a match situation together. (The first was a 6-0 win in a training excercise).
The lads had most of the possession but conceded goals largely when out thought in set piece situations. The first, second, third and fifth being from free kicks. They scored from a penalty conceded when only desperate measures by the home defence kept the ball out of the net.
Manager Dave Brown, whilst his usual passionate self on the touchline during the game was generally pleased with what he saw from a side that contained six or seven sixteen year olds throughout.
Next up is Atherton Town on Sunday in what is expected to be a much closer encounter. The third Atherton outfit, you will all be familiar with Collieries and Laburnum Rovers will be joining FC in the North West Youth Alliance all though in a lower league. Their senior side were unfortunate to be relegated from their step seven league last year and will be keen to bounce straight back.
