ROCHDALE AFC YOUTH 1 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 1
A last minute leveller by Rochdale AFC Youth cost FC United of Manchester Youth the win as the two sides shared the points on offer in a 1-1 draw at Heywood Sports Village in the National League u19 Alliance ’J’ Division on Wednesday afternoon.

The Young Reds had started the match by far the brighter side, and Max Lewens was unlucky to see a 14th minute effort cleared off the line by a home defender.

The FC United of Manchester forward wasn’t to be denied, however.

On 66 minutes, substitute Sam Iwegbu went on a surging run, only for his curling effort to strike the crossbar, but centre-forward MAX LEWENS was in just the right place to sweep the loose ball home.

That looked to have decided the game, but Rochdale AFC Youth had other ideas. A long throw-in on 89 minutes wasn’t properly cleared, and TYLER SMITH’s looping header just evaded ’keeper Tom Bamber before ending up in the back of the FC United goal for an unlikely late equaliser.

FC United of Manchester Youth are back in action next Wednesday with a home league fixture against Salford City FC Youth (Broadhurst Park 3G - KO 1 pm).
