Match Report
FC United were knocked out of Manchester Premier Cup 3-1 on penalties by Radcliffe Borough after a 1-1 draw at Stainton Park on Tuesday night.

Michael Brewster scored on his debut to give the Reds a lead but they were pegged back before half-time when Thomas Hulme equalised for the hosts.

The second half produced no more goals, so a penalty shoot-out was needed to decide the tie. United missed three of our four penalties to gift the faultless Borough a passage into the next round.

It was the home side that opened up the most dangerous of the sides. Within the first 30 minutes, the busy Elliott Rokka had forced a double save from goalkeeper Nick Culkin and seen his chip acrobatically cleared off the line by centre-back Luke Ashworth.

FC United were seeing a decent amount of the ball and took the lead with our first real shot on target when a cross from the left was steered in by Brewster.

Right on the stroke of half time, Radcliffe drew level when a break down the right saw the ball with Hulme. His shot across goal squirmed through Culkin into the far corner of the net.

The second half saw the Reds with the lion’s share of the ball but it was Borough who looked most likely to score with Culkin saving well on a couple of occasions.

Deep into injury time, it looked as if FC United had grabbed the win when a corner was headed goalwards by Andy Pearson but Chris Cheetham blocked the chance.

The game went straight to a penalty shootout. First up for FC United was Chris Lynch. The centre-back scored but he was the only player in red who managed to do so as Greg Daniels saw his saved, Brewster hit the bar and Tom Greaves also failed to convert. The home side only needed to take three of their penalties to advance into the next round.

Website man of the match - Michael Brewster. The one highlight of the FC United performance. Showed skill and composure on his debut, wasn’t afraid to attempt his passes and didn’t hide when they didn’t always come off.
