1 - 4
FC United of Manchester
FC United got their first win of the pre-season after a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Nelson on Thursday evening.
Goals from trialist Harry Pratt and George Thomson gave the Reds a 2-0 lead at the break and two Sam Madeley goals in the second half finished the scoring.
United started well with Pratt playing alongside Dale Johnson with two up front and the two linked well to play Pratt in as he coolly chipped the ball over the ‘keeper to give FC an early lead.
Pratt then turned provider laying the ball of to Thomson whose shot just outside the box had too much on it for the home ‘keeper to stop.
A number of changes at the break didn’t take United’s momentum away and Sam Madeley made it 3-0 after his placed effort from outside the box was helped in with a deflection.
The Admirals didn’t sink without trace though as they got a goal back not long after Madeley had made it 3-0, but Madeley got his second of the night and the pick of the goals as he was played into the box before chipping the ball over the on rushing ‘keeper from a tight angle inside the six-yard box.
The result will give the Reds a renewed confidence knowing that their performances in the first four pre-season games have now seen a result at the end of 90 minutes.
Next up it’s a home game at Broadhurst Park against Hereford FC on Saturday, which will be a good test after last season’s defeat to The Bulls at Edgar Street.
