Match Report
FC United Youth returned to winning ways at Nantwich returning with a 6-1 score line under their belts. Famed for their early goals they excelled themselves by scoring with barely 15 seconds on the clock. From the kick off Nantwich were retreating to their own goal. The ball was knocked towards keeper Jake Ratcliffe, who looked set to pick the ball up. However he appeared to have second thoughts as suddenly the ball was on the floor and Jonathan Poizer stroked it into the net. The reds striker then looked nervously at the referee to be sure he was allowing the goal.

The lead was double after 10 minutes when Theo Kidd was able to burst into the box and slot the ball past the keeper and into the far corner. Theo turned provider five minutes later, as Matthew Boland finished another incisive break through the home defence.

The reds continued to play their passing game but were unable to add to the score until five minutes before half time. Several chances had come and gone; including on half an hour when Matthew Hassall crossed from the left. Theo got his head to the ball but didn’t really turn it goal wards. Instead it reached Poizer whose firm shot was well saved. Ten minutes later it looked like the fourth goal had arrived when Matthew Boland lobbed the keeper. From the touchline over 50 yards away it looked as if the ball was going to drop nicely in the far corner although at half time the players insisted this was not the case. Alex Stones sought to apply a finishing touch as the goal gaped only to head it wide. His embarrassment was spared by the knowledge that the linesman would have ruled him to have been offside. The goal did arrive in the next attack as Theo tapped home a cross from Matthew Boland. Nantwich did get on the score sheet just before half time. A goalkeeping punt was misjudged by the FC defence before being swept home.

The contest was finished by two FC United goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Firstly Matthew Boland provided a pass through the Nantwich back four for Jonathan Poizer to convert and Jonathan turned provider crossing for Matthew Hassall to tap in at the far post. The reds dominated possession and chances for the remainder of the game but were unable to add to the score; debutante Richard Smith unfortunate in shooting over after a crisp passing exchange midway through the half was probably the best of them.

FC United of Manchester: Jonathan Beisty, Alex Stones, Max Thomas, Richard Smith, James Brooks (Nickeele Locke 45 mins), Kial Callacher, Matthew Hassall, Chris Smith (Connor Naughton 45 mins), Theo Kidd, Matthew Boland, Jonathan Poizer (Sam Howell 53 mins). Sub not Used Kyle Cunningham.

Goals: Theo Kidd (2), Jonathan Poizer (2), Matthew Boland, Matthew Hassall.

Errors and Erratum.

Last weeks goal against Mossley was credited to Jonathan Poizer instead of Matthew Hassall. The mistake was due to their similar hairstyles although there was a “Father Dougal??? standard misjudgement of scale when looking across from the touchline to the celebrations. Sorry Matthew.
