FC United of Manchester
FC United came away with a 4-0 victory at Mossley on Tuesday night thanks to a hat-trick from trialist Jason Gilchrist and a sublime goal from Nathan Lowe.
Just four players started the game that had started at home to Hereford four days earlier as manager Karl Marginson looked to take a look at players who could potentially add to the squad for the season.
One such player was Gilchrist, who couldn’t have wished for a better start as he beat the offside trap, rounded Liam Flynn in the Mossley goal and slotted home from a tight angle after just four minutes.
Fellow trialist Nathan Lowe scored the goal of the evening to make it 2-0 as he coolly switched the ball onto his left foot outside the area and placed his 20 yard effort in the top corner leaving Flynn rooted to the spot.
It could have easily been more at the break as George Thomson ran the show looking like he was enjoying the time he was getting on the ball before seeing an effort hit the post and a menacing free kick just knocked over the goal by one of the Mossley defence.
Former Burnley man Gilchrist got his second of the night finishing off a lovely move of short passes between the team that saw him presented with a chance just inside the box which he finished well.
Gilchrist got his hat-trick just moments later as substitute Sam Madeley drifted a free-kick to the far post which Gilchrist got to before the on rushing Flynn to seal a memorable hat-trick in his first appearance in an FC jersey.
The win is FC United’s third on the bounce following wins at Nelson (4-1) last Thursday and Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hereford at Broadhurst Park. Meaning the Reds have scored nine goals in those three games as well as keeping two clean sheets.
Next up for FC United is the toughest pre-season test so far as we welcome League One side Rochdale to Broadhurst Park this Saturday, a fixture which will always have a place in FC United history after the famous FA Cup victory in 2011.
