Match Report
A late equaliser by Matthew Wolfenden saw FC United snatch a 2-2 at Kendal Town on Saturday afternoon, with Matthew Walwyn also on the score-sheet, his second goals in four days.

The Reds were 1-0 up at the break thanks to a Walwyn header but the hosts hit back with two goals inside the first 20 minutes of the second-half. United stuck to their task though and two minutes from time Wolfenden ensured a share of the spoils in the seventh friendly of our pre-season campaign.

On 10 minutes, Ollie Banks continued his form from Wednesday’s game against Bolton Wanderers firing a Rhrodri Giggs free-kick over the bar. Four minutes later, the home side had the ball in the net when a good move saw a Jordan Connerton cross headed in by Danny Mitchley but the assistant’s flag was raised for offside.

Mitchley came close soon after but he saw his shot well saved by United goalkeeper Jon Worsnop. On the half hour, the Reds took the lead when a cross from Banks was headed in by Walwyn. Kendal almost pulled level when a mix up in the FC back line saw Mitchley in on goal but Worsnop saved well.

Just before half time the Reds came close to doubling the lead when a move down the right hand side saw a Giggs cross headed onto the bar by Jerome Wright, the ball going out for a goal-kick. In time added on, Zach Clark did well on the left and found himself in the box, Worsnop again saving well.

The second half was just three minutes old when the home side drew level. A ball over the top found Connerton who rounded Worsnop and finished well into the far corner. Just after the hour mark, Kendal took the lead when another ball over the top found Connerton and he finished with aplomb past Worsnop.

On 70 minutes, FC United hit the woodwork again when a long cross found Sam Fitzgerald, but his chance struck the post. With just two minutes left on the clock, the equaliser came from the ever reliable Wolfenden. The ball was chipped into the box where good work from Michael Norton saw him pull the ball back to Wolfenden, who was Iurking at the edge of the box. His shot was well placed into the far post to bring FC United level.

As with all pre-season games, it was another opportunity for Karl Marginson to give players valuable time on the pitch, assess his squad ahead of the new season and he may be nearer to knowing who will start the season at Worksop Town on Saturday 17th August.
